GEEK PICK Nintendo Switch Adjustable Charging Stand

first_img Obviously the biggest appeal of the Nintendo Switch (besides its banger library of exclusive Nintendo video games) is its ability to be played in all kinds of context. Put it in the dock and play on your television. Hold it in your hands and play portably. Or prop it up on its kickstand for a sort of hybrid “tabletop” mode.Out of these three modes though tabletop mode has always seemed the shakiest, literally once you realize how flimsy the default kickstand is. Sure you can have multiplayer sessions with everyone crowding around the six-inch screen. But the limited battery life puts a time cap on the fun, and since the charging port is on the bottom of the tablet it can’t be accessed while playing like this, unlike with the other two modes. That last part, the blocked charging port, has always just seemed like a straight-up design flaw. And now Nintendo apparently agrees because they’ve just released the Nintendo Switch Adjustable Charging Stand ($20).This tiny black stand connects to the Switch’s USB-C port and has a USB-C port of its own. So simply connect it to your Switch power adapter to keep the system alive while propped up in tabletop mode. The sturdier adjustable kickstand on the back also lets you view the Switch at different, more comfortable angles.「Nintendo Switch充電スタンド(フリーストップ式)」は本日発売です。本体の画面の角度を自由に変えられる、テーブルモード用のスタンドです。— 任天堂株式会社 (@Nintendo) July 13, 2018And that’s pretty much it! A bunch of third-party Switch stands had offered functionality like this beforehand. Heck, some of them offered more functionality like a HDMI port turning the stand into a miniature dock, a feature we can’t fathom why Nintendo didn’t include here. However, recent firmware updates have also been bricking Switches connected to third party docks. You (hopefully) won’t have this issue with an official Nintendo accessory. It would really suck to lose all that progress just weeks before cloud saves roll out with Nintendo Switch Online. The Nintendo Switch Adjustable Charging Stand is available now, oh-so conveniently timed with the release of two exciting new Switch games in the form of Octopath Traveler and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.
