RACQ Insurance names worst postcodes for home break-ins

first_imgBarry and Cherrie Waldron, from Forest Lake, say they’re surprised by the data.BRISBANE’s home theft hot spots have been revealed, with latest insurance figures showing where owners were targeted the most last year.Data from RACQ Insurance found that the most claims involving home theft came out of Forest Lake, Birkdale and Springwood, followed by Regents Park, Buderim and Bridgeman Downs.Last year, 782 insurance claims were recorded, up from 758 the previous year, according to RACQ figures alone, with Forest Lake seeing 15 break-ins last year while Birkdale had 10.Unfortunately many of the robberies could have been avoided if owners simply locked up, according to RACQ Insurance spokeswoman Anna Jeffries“Unfortunately we see too many householders are making it easy for thieves to enter their home by leaving doors and windows open or unlocked,” she said.Mrs Jeffries said the most common items stolen from homes included jewellery, computers and personal items.Ray White Middle Park agent Susan Bardon said Forest Lake was one of the largest suburbs in Queensland with the largest number of homes. “Compared to other suburbs, you would expect a higher number of burglary rates,” Ms Bardon said. “I don’t think it’s a concern, especially because it’s a big suburb.”Ms Bardon owns an investment property in Forest Lake, which she bought eight years ago, and said her father-in-law also lived in the area.“No doubt buyers want a safe suburb — I am confident to say it is a safe suburb,” she saidForest Lake residents Barry and Cherrie Waldron have lived in the area for close to 25 years and said they were surprised by the data.“I’ve never had any concerns,” Mr Waldron said. “I feel very safe (in Forest Lake).”Mr Waldron recently sold a property at Forest Lake which he has owned since 1994 and decided to stay and buy another home in the area. We wouldn’t want to live anywhere else,” he said.
