Four Hundred Kilos of Cocaine Confiscated in Colombia’s La Guajira

first_img In a joint operation carried out between the Colombian Army and the National Navy, 391 kilos of cocaine were confiscated, and a suspect was arrested in the municipality of Palomino, La Guajira department. The operation started at 35 nautical miles from Riohacha, where the National Navy’s Coast Guard units interdicted a fiberglass speed boat about 42 feet long at sea that was propelled by three 200-horsepower engines. After noticing the authorities’ presence, the crew members tried to escape, using the boat. Immediately after, the National Navy established communication with the National Army troops from Cartagena and Alta Montaña No. 6 Battalions, who approached the boat and found 16 cocaine packages. In forward military ground action, Army troops captured an individual and also found two communication devices, as well as navigation elements that were brought before the authorities in charge to start the appropriate legal proceedings. The drugs were transported to the Cartagena battalion, where specialized personnel performed Homologated Preliminary Initial Tests, which proved the content was cocaine hydrochloride. According to initial reports, this cargo was bound for Central America, where its value is approximately $10 million.
